I have seen a number of “Vote Republican” signs recently and have been pondering why anyone would follow this advice. It turns out there are quite a few pretty obvious examples of people who should:
If you are a woman who believes women are naturally second class citizens and that women are primarily at fault for sexual assault, vote Republican. If you are a senior citizen who believes your share of Social Security and Medicare benefits needs to be cut in order for corporations to pay less in taxes, vote Republican. If you believe a newborn child with a heart defect should be allowed to die because her parent’s cannot afford the cost of medical care, vote Republican. If you believe black and brown people – and even Native Americans – are not “real” Americans and therefore do not deserve the right to vote in this country, vote Republican. And if you, like both the President and Ryan Zinke, are in this world only for yourself, vote Republican. If you do not see yourself in any of these scenarios, but plan to vote Republican anyway, just remember that you are judged by the company you keep. |
