I was born in 1942 when Franklin Roosevelt was President and Hitler was the dictator of Germany. So, I’ve been alive during the regimes of many presidents. My grandfather came from Baden-Baden, Germany before the first world war. Thus, my interest in Germany’s history and Hitler’s Nazis. I’ve read about it and watched the History and AHC channels on TV. Here’s what I know. After the First World War, Germany owed France and Belgium money for reparations as dictated in the Treaty of Versailles. They couldn’t pay so they let the mark depreciate to the point that the German people had to have a wheelbarrow full of money to buy a loaf of bread. Needless to say, the German people and the whole country were in dire straits. There were no jobs and not much to eat. This left the country open to anyone that might want control of the country. Several factions did vie for control and of course, Hitler and his gang gained control. Hitler frightened the people and lied to them when he told them that the Jews were responsible for all of Germany’s woes and that they were inferior and evil and should be eliminated. He promised to create good paying jobs. He did bring the economy back to life, by making equipment for war (against the Treaty of Versailles) but at slave wages. The people were ready to believe anything he said and were just glad to have a job and something to eat. Hitler’s rallying cry was; “Make Germany great again.” Hitler was a liar. Do those things sound familiar? Trump says the immigrants are a threat to our country and should be eliminated. He says the Democrats are evil. He said he would create jobs for the working class. He said he would lower taxes for small businesses and the working people. He’s a liar. And if he manages to become dictator, we should all beware. Hitler wanted to make Germany great again and look what happened. |
