I’ve been fortunate to have floated the Smith River a couple times. It is very special and so popular, that it is the only river in Montana where floating permits are required.
The mine, the Smith River and I-186:
I-186 will ensure that new hard rock mines in Montana operate responsibly. I-186 will hold mining companies accountable for any environmental damage they do, and no longer allow them to leave behind toxic messes requiring perpetual treatment of water contaminated by acid mine drainage and heavy metals. Presently we citizens are paying millions of dollars for mining messes left by companies from their past operations. The corporation who wants to mine this Smith River country has already contributed financial resources to the opposition of I-186.
So: visit www.yeson186.org. and contribute to MEIC to help pass I-186.
