Johanna M. Dunn

August 3, 2018 by Editor

Stevensville – Johanna (Jo) M. Dunn, 67, of Stevensville passed away Friday, July 27th 2018 at her home. She was born April 30, 1951 in Rutland, VT, the daughter of the late Mary and Jim Dunn.

Jo was raised in Burlington, VT and after graduating from high school she enrolled in Nursing School and continued the multi-generational tradition of practicing as a nurse. Following the completion of her training, she married Walt Briggs in December 1971 and moved to Missoula, MT. Jo and Walt had a daughter in 1976. Her early professional career was filled with practicing as a nurse in hospitals, clinics, home-health settings, and nursing homes.  In 1980 Jo married Jess Mickelson and they had a son in 1983.

Although Jo was an energetic and committed nurse her deepest passions were musical in nature. She spent many years singing and playing the guitar for family and friends. In her early 40’s, Jo took a leap of faith and returned to her roots as a musician and began playing in rock and roll cover bands in Missoula and the surrounding area. As the lead singer she graced the audiences with her soulful voice.

Later in life Jo applied her nurturing and warm heart to occupations including juvenile case manager and preschool teacher. Jo’s colorful and magnetic personality made it possible for her to successfully work with a variety of people and bring a spirit of optimism to their circumstances.

Jo is survived by her daughter Brit Briggs and husband Tim of Seattle, and Clancy Mickelson and wife Erika of Missoula; two grandchildren, and a sister and brother.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Parish in Stevensville with Father Matthew. A reception will follow the services.
