Stevensville – Jay entered greener pastures on Saturday, March 31, 2018. He was born on June 4, 1976 in Denver, CO to Jim and Nancy Lowell. He was named after both his grandpas – John Lowell and Frank Potter – but has always been called Jay.
In 3rd grade his family moved from Castle Rock, CO back to Stevensville where he began his schooling. He was a football player, wrestler, 4H and FFA member. His main love was hunting and fishing. He graduated from Stevensville High School and took a year off to head to Colorado to run the ranch for his grandparents. He then returned and began his college career at Western Montana College in Dillon, where he graduated with a business degree. We teased him that his mind was hunting! He enjoyed his time there and made many lifelong friends.
After graduation, he purchased Fort Owen Trading Post where he faithfully worked until his death. His other work credentials included working at Ruffatto Land and Cattle, Ellison Cattle Company and for anyone who needed a helping hand.
He was a friend to all and had a giving personality. He said that, “Sometimes you just need to do that!” He purchased a rundown farm and worked and worked to improve it. He and his dad built a beautiful rock wall and always enjoyed their hunting expeditions from the time that Jay could go.
In the last year, he and his foreman (mom) took on an adventure raising cows and calves! It was a great joy to us seeing our little white-faced calves, such a great memory.
He loved his sister and nephew greatly and unconditionally!
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Bea Lowell, along with Frank and Pic Potter. He also was preceded by aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is survived by his dad Jim Lowell; mom Nancy Lowell; sister Jamie Lowell and his beloved nephew Aksel “AJ” Sorenson. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many great friends. Also, he leaves behind Jenna, his faithful Aussie dog!
A “gathering of friends” memorial to celebrate his life will be held on April 15, 2018 at the American Legion Hall in Stevensville from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. If you would care to bring a salad or dessert please feel free to!
