Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) and the Stevensville Park Board are seeking early input on site design plans for the Stevensville Bridge river access.
The site, currently a mix of private and Town land, has long been a popular Bitterroot River access for floaters, anglers and others. The site’s private landowner, Myla Yahraus, plans to donate approximately seven acres of land to FWP to develop and maintain as part of its Fishing Access Site (FAS) program.
In preparation, FWP and the Town of Stevensville Park Board are seeking input on what the local community and recreationists would like to see at the site. Design considerations include space for more parking, a latrine, possible campsites and other developments that would accommodate public demand while also better protecting the surrounding riverbank and resources.
FWP and the Stevensville Park Board will co-host a public meeting on Wednesday, May 2 at 7 p.m. at the Stevensville High School all-purpose room, 300 Park Avenue, to provide background, share development ideas, and collect input and ideas. Public input collected now (as part of this early scoping process) will help FWP develop a site design plan. A draft development plan for the site will then go out for public review and comment later this spring as part of the Environmental Assessment process.
For more information or to provide additional input outside the meeting, email or call FWP Region 2 FAS Manager, Rory Zarling: rzarling@mt.gov or 406-542-5561 or the Stevensville Town Clerk at 406-777-5271, ext. 2 by Monday, May 7, 2018.
