During a recent Stevensville Town Council meeting there was a discussion regarding the mayor’s employment with the fire department and a potential conflict of interest with his role as mayor. The discussion was somewhat tense and seemed to look past the obvious difficulties with finding volunteers and good employees in a small town.
I wanted to express my appreciation for Brandon Dewey’s approach to the conversation and his general conduct as Mayor. Despite the tone of the conversation, Mr. Dewey decided to put his promise to the voters ahead of his personal needs and resigned his position on the Fire Department to end the conversation, avoid further discussions of a conflict of interest, and to refocus the council on work to benefit the Town of Stevensville.
I voted for Mr. Dewey and it is gratifying to find that my vote was well placed. In smaller towns it is often difficult to find people to serve the city in an elected position, as city staff, or as a volunteer and it can be difficult to retain those people based on what we are able to pay. Mr. Dewey displayed why he is someone well worth supporting and I am grateful for his service.
