The “Jam for Jean at the Gym” will be held this Saturday, March 24 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Stevensville School multi-purpose room to raise money to help Jean Schurman with medical expenses related to breast cancer. Schurman has undergone chemotherapy and surgeries and still has more ahead of her.
Saturday’s event is being organized to be fun for all ages, with a hearty soup dinner, a bluegrass jam session, silent and live auctions and even some games for the kids.
The community has been very generous with their donations for the auction and there should be something to interest everyone in bidding, from airplane rides over the Bitterroot to gardening and pet supplies, to crafts and auto services.
Schurman has lived in the Bitterroot all her life and has worked for the Bitterroot Star as sports editor and sales consultant for over 20 years. She has also volunteered and done fundraising for many community organizations, including Sprinkle Pink/Aid for Mammography Fund, Kiwanis All Valley Classic, Stevensville Main Street Association and Chamber of Commerce. She is a member of the county Fair Board and helps put on the Cowboy Ball every year to raise money for the rodeo, one of her passions. She was previously recognized as the Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year.
The public is invited to come on out and give back to Jean for all she’s given to the valley. For more information contact the Bitterroot Star at 777-3928 or Joan Prather at 531-8401.
