Ravalli County Sheriff’s Department has issued the following:
February 19, 2018, 3:30 PM
Sheriff Steve Holton said an investigation with the Darby Marshal’s Office into alleged social media threats towards the Darby School District has resulted in the arrest of an 18-year-old male. The suspect is a senior at Darby High School.
Sheriff Holton said school officials were made aware of a “SnapChat” message that had been received by other students. The message referenced the recent school shooting in Florida, and implied a threat of violence to the Darby School District. Holton said school officials acted immediately by reporting the information to the Darby Marshal’s Office, as well as suspending the suspect and restricting him from school properties and functions. As more information was received, the alleged threat was deemed serious and credible enough to require bringing the suspect into custody to assure safety for the community. There is no reason to believe there are additional suspects or threats regarding this incident.
Increased law enforcement including Darby Marshals and Sheriff’s Deputies were at the school Monday morning and that presence will continue as the case is investigated.
