Ravalli County Sheriff Steve Holton said a second social media threat of violence to the Darby School District is under investigation by the Darby Marshal’s Office and Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Holton said a Snap Chat message referencing the threats from earlier this week and adding new threats was received by a Darby Student on Wednesday morning. The student brought the message to the attention of school authorities and law enforcement responded to the Darby School.
Sheriff Holton said investigators have been able to determine that the threat was likely made from outside the State of Montana. The investigation is continuing, as investigators work to identify the suspect and confirm the location the threats originated from. Holton said out of state law enforcement agencies are assisting with the investigation and in locating the suspect.
The RCSO, Darby Marshal, and Darby School District are working together to provide a safe and secure school environment, and school is open today. Increased law enforcement will continue in the schools and Darby vicinity until the case is resolved.
Sheriff Holton said that anyone who receives or notices threats of potential violence should notify the Sheriff’s Office immediately, so actions can be taken to provide security and initiate an investigation.
