Jean Elizabeth Summers

August 1, 2017 by Editor

Our mother, sister, and friend Jean Elizabeth Summers passed away at her home early on the morning of July 29, 2017. Jean was born June 30, 1941 in Seattle, WA to Harold and Victoria Wilson. The eldest of nine children, she graduated from Edmonds High School, Edmonds, WA.

In 1959, she married Oscar Pederson, with whom God blessed her with four loving children. In 1968 she married Duane Swallow and his four loving children.

In 1969, after coming to Hamilton for Duane’s 20-year class reunion, Jean knew the Bitterroot Valley was where she belonged. Two years later, with eight children, two dogs and one cat, they moved to Hamilton.

In 1978, she married Richard Summers.  They had seven years of memorable times with her children, Dick’s five children and many grandchildren.

After Dick’s passing in 1985, Jean moved back to Seattle for six years. In 1992, she realized it was time to move back to The Bitterroot where she belonged.

Jean is a member of Faith Lutheran Church. Since 1969, she has been an avid bowler. Between 1970 and 2013, she was Secretary/Treasurer and Association Manager for The Bitterroot Valley Association for 18 of those years and Secretary/Treasurer of several leagues for all but five of those 43 years between Hamilton and Seattle. She was also an avid golfer and member of The Hamilton Golf Club. There were many memorable times with her group of friends she played pinochle with on Thursday nights since 1984. They had many enjoyable laughs over the years about the changes in themselves as they aged though the years.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Summers, her parents, Harold and Victoria Wilson, sisters, Patricia Morrow and Barbara Isakson, brother, David Wilson, sons, Scott Swallow and Aaron Swallow.
Surviving her are: sons Verne (Maria) Pederson, Kirkland, WA, Ed Pederson, Corvallis, Greg Pederson, Corvallis, Jon Swallow, Hamilton; daughters, Tori Pederson-Hildebrand, Lynnwood, WA, Shawn Swallow, Derby, KS and Anna Swallow, Little Rock, AR; grandchildren, Samantha Hildebrand, Jacob Hildebrand and Anika Hildebrand, Lynnwood, WA; special stepdaughter and granddaughter, Shirley Summers, Stevensville and Karisa Henderson, Missoula; brothers, Roy Wilson, Bellingham, WA, Jim Wilson, Marysville, WA; sisters, Judy Wilson, Lynnwood, WA, Sharon Wilson, Lake Stevens, WA and Margie Kammerer, Moses Lake, WA.
Please join us for a potluck celebration of her life on August 5, 2017 at 317 Woodside Cutoff, Corvallis, MT 59828 at the Corvallis Fire House after 10 a.m.
