Today I took my dog to the park, he was on a leash. There was another dog there, as it turns out, not on a leash. When this dog saw my dog, he/she jumped up and began barking and running towards my dog. This dog attacked my dog, I was yelling, “No, no” and the dog owners were yelling at their dog to stop. This dog made contact with mine, my dog is not a fighter, he leaned in toward me, away from the attacking dog. Finally I was able to get their dog away from mine.
This is not the first time this has happened. Another time I was told “don’t worry, he’s friendly” and then my dog lost neck hair before the dog owner could get the dog off my dog.
This isn’t ok, when those “friendly” dogs attack my dog, me or others, on leash or off.
I do allow my dog off leash to play with other dogs, and it works out great when the other dogs are in fact friendly and want to play. However, allowing a dog off leash when it isn’t ‘dog friendly’ (or people friendly) is not ok.
