The 9th Annual Sort Pink for Tough Enough to Wear Pink of Montana was held over the weekend at the Sapphire Event Center. Contestants from throughout Montana came to chase cows and raise money for a good cause. Funds raised from the event are used to provide funding for great cancer awareness, education, screening, support, grants, mammograms and other means of support for Montana women and men. This Sort Pink event has raised more money than any other equine fund raiser event in Montana. Prior to this weekend’s sorting, they had donated over $253,000 to Tough Enough to Wear Pink of Montana. This year, there were more than 100 cowboys and cowgirls competing. Holly Berner of Corvallis was one of the competitors this weekend. She is shown here competing in the ‘7’ class. The object of the sorting is to sort cattle in numerical order from one round pen to another. There are two contestants, a holder and a sorter. Generally the two alternate back and forth to get the cattle through the gate. The team that gets the most cattle through (there are a maximum of 10 numbered cattle) the gate in the least amount of time wins. There is a time limit of 60 seconds on the run.
