The MCPS Invitational was held on Saturday at Dornblaser Field in Missoula. There were 13 teams competing in the cold and windy event. Corvallis came in forth in the boys and fifth in the girls team scoring but aside from the girls’ 1600 relay, didn’t win an event. Hamilton was eighth in the boys and Florence was 11th. In the girls, Stevensville finished seventh and Hamilton eighth.
Corvallis’ Andrew Jessop finished fourth in both the 1,600 and the 3,200. He had a time of 4:39.95 in the 1,600. Marshall Beatty of Sentinel won the event with a time of 4:25.49. Andrew Jessop’s time of 10:02.71 was just over 30 seconds behind Beatty’s winning time of 9:32.33 in the 3,200. Corvallis’ Carson Jessop finished sixth in the 3,200 with a time of 10:05.47. Jake Jessop finished second in the 400 with a time of 52.47 and Bruce Thomas was fourth with a time of 52.69. The Blue Devil 400 relay took sixth with a time of 45.71. Glacier won the event with 43.31. The Blue Devil 1,600 relay took third with a time of 3:34.08. Glacier won that event as well with a time of 3:28.74.
In the field events, Ridge Albright of Corvallis finished third in the high jump with a leap of six feet. Andy Thomas of Flathead won the event with a leap of 6’5”. Braxton Roth finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 20’1”. He was third in the triple jump with 40’5 1/4”. Garrett Brown was third int eh shot put with a put of 46’1 1/2”. Zach Jessop threw the javelin 173’4” to take fourth in that event.
Florence’s Caden Venters threw the javelin 190 feet to win that event. This is the second farthest throw this season in the state and in Class B. Benji Phillips of Glasgow has the longest throw. Jethro Thorne of Florence took sixth in the 200 with a time of 23.67. Nick Wakai of Big Sky won the 200 meter race with a time of 23.12.
Jaylen Taggart of Hamilton won the discus with a throw of 156’1”. Fellow Bronc Dillon Spear was third with 136’3”. Only Carter Hughes of Sidney has thrown the discus farther in Class A this year; he had an effort of 163’10”. Hamilton’s Matt Wilson was fifth in the 3,200 with a time of 10:03.26. Tyler Chouinard tied for fifth with Pascual Gutierrez of Big Sky with 5’8” in the high jump. Ky Burch was fourth in the triple jump with 40’ 1 1/4”. Thomas of Flathead won the event with an effort of 43’7 1/4”.
The Corvallis girls’ 1,600 relay team of Emme Warnken, Penny Jessop, Bree Lewis, and Heidi Nisly ran a 4:11.98 to capture first in that event. This is the fastest time in Class A in the state at this point of the season. Jessop was sixth in the 100 with a time of 13.61. JoyLynn Glidewell of Big Sky won that event with a time of 13.12. Warnken was second in the 400 with a time of 1:02.13, just four one/hundredths of a second behind the winner, Kronner of Hellgate. Nisly was third int he 800 with a time of 2:22.78. Annie Hill of Glacier won with 2:13.23. The Blue Devils 400 relay team finished fourth behind Hellgate, Sentinel and Big Sky.
In the throwing events, Calla Haldorson of Corvallis switched over to the shot put and finished third with a throw of 35’. Brooklyn Palin was fifth with a throw of 34’. Nikki Krueger of Glacier took first in the shot put with a put of 37’8 1/2”. Palin was second in discus with a throw of 123’9”. Madi Arneson of Sentinel won with 129’10”. Brooke Wiltbank of Corvallis was sixth in the discus with a throw of 115’. Ceara Chavez finished fourth in the triple jump for the Blue Devils with a leap of 36’8 1/2”.
Hamilton’s Kacia Guisinger won the high jump with a leap of 5’4”. Ashlee Searle of Hamilton was second with a leap of 5’3”. Reilly Rostad was third in the long jump with 15’10 1/2”. Madde Boles of Flathead 16’5” won the event.
Stevensville’s Mariah Hinson had a throw of 126’1” in the javelin which was good enough for second place. Kylie Frolich of Sentinel won with 128’2”. Hinson was fifth in the triple jump with 32’11 3/4”. Lauren Heggen of Sentinel won with 36’8 1/2”. Hannah Fry was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 15’5 1/2”. Samantha Payne was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 15’1”. Megan Pendergast took second in the 300 hurdles with a time of 49.11. Syd Steele of Sentinel won with a time of 48.83. Pendergast was third in the high jump with a leap of 5’1”.
Darby competed in the Dave Tripp Memorial track meet at Polson on Thursday. The girls finished fifth behind Charlo, Thompson Falls, Arlee and Plains. Gracie Lang won the 1,600 with a time of 5:48.75. She also won the 3,200 with a time of 12:23.19. Casey Ehmann won the 400 with a time of 1:05.48. Ehmann was second in the 200, fourth in the 100 hurdles and second in the 300 hurdles. Annie Rennaker was third int he 800 and fifth in the 1,600.
The Darby boys took fourth place behind Thompson Falls, Charlo and Hot Springs. Evan Duggan won the 800 with a time of 2:11.54. He won the 1,600 with a time of 4:46.92 and he won the 3,200 with a time of 10:549.69. Jordan Usher was sixth in the 3,200. Donavon Chaffin was fourth in the 800 for the Tigers. Ky McCollaum won the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.10 and the 300 hurdles with a time of 42.19. John Beckers won the javelin with a throw of 166’8”. Beckers was sixth in the discus with a throw of 106’. Darby’s 1,600 relay team finished third behind Charlo and Thompson Falls.
