At its November 10 meeting, the Stevensville Town Council approved a resolution of intent to adopt an update to the Town’s Growth Policy.
Mathew Rohrbach, Community Planner at Land Solutions, noted a few changes that had been made by the Planning and Zoning Board before making its recommendation to adopt the updates. Probably the most significant change was deleting the future land use map from the document. According to Rohrbach, it was removed because of concerns that some people might misinterpret it as a regulatory document affecting people who live outside the town limits since the map extends a mile beyond the town boundaries. The future land use map may be added at a future time after receiving more examination and public comment.
Another item removed from the document was a reference to a proposed land swap at the river. It was decided that since discussions were ongoing that it was not appropriate to include it in the document at this point.
In other business, the Council approved the Mayor’s appointment of Vickie Motley to the Park Board.
The Council also approved a burn permit for contained sidewalk fires during the Parade of Lights, scheduled for December 2.
Councilor Clay Freeman announced that he and his wife had sold their home and would be leaving Stevensville by the end of the year. Closing on the home sale is scheduled for late December and at that point he would no longer be a resident of the town. He suggested that the Council begin looking for a replacement since the December meeting would probably be his last. A notice about the opening is currently running in the Star’s classified ads.
