Texas residents are once again facing devastating flooding and hundreds of Red Cross volunteers from all over the country are there operating or supporting 17 shelters, providing meals, assessing damage, offering emotional support and distributing relief supplies.
Since the beginning of the year, numerous storms have ravaged the state. Thousands of people have evacuated their homes in low-lying areas, as rivers swell to levels not seen in more than 100 years.
Red Cross deployed 22 emergency response vehicles to help and six more are on the way to Texas to support the relief effort.
With four feet of water lapping at their door, Maria Esquivel and her family left their home and sought refuge at a Red Cross shelter. This family lost everything except for five sets of clothing that they were able to get as they evacuated.
The Red Cross is helping hundreds of families like Maria’s across Texas as the floodwaters continue to rise and more families are forced to leave everything behind.
I am reminded of the support we received from Red Cross volunteers and donors from across the country last summer as we opened multiple shelters due to wildfires.
Now we need Montanans to help families get back on their feet and into their homes. Please make a donation at redcross.org or calling 1-800-272-6668. We are truly grateful for every single gift.
