Thank you! To all the volunteers, people and organizations who made our project on the East Fork possible – we could not have done it without you. In April the Bitter Root Water Forum completed a project revegetating 530 feet along the East Fork between highway 93 and the river. We could not be more thankful to the community for getting behind this project. Over 40 community members gave more than 300 hours of their time to help us plant and protect 165 native shrubs. Projects like this create a healthy riparian area which acts as a buffer to filter sediment and pollutants from entering the stream, shade the stream, and improve habitat.
In addition to multiple individuals who donated their personal time, there were many groups and organizations who deserve mention: Terri Murphy’s High School Science from Stevensville, Trapper Creek Job Corps, Bitterroot Trout Unlimited, Fly Fishers of the Bitterroot, and the Bitterroot Conservation District. Funding for this project was made possible by the Bitterroot Resource Advisory Committee and Bitterroot Audubon.
To those of you who drove by and wondered what we were doing, now you know! To those who recognized our efforts with a nod, wave or a honk, thank you! It is truly a gift to work in this wonderful place for a resource that is beloved and treasured by so many.
