Russ is wrong

March 29, 2016 by Guest Post

In reading Gregory Russ’ letter this week what stood out to me was that, while he went into great depth reminding “We the People” of the First Amendment and our Constitutional obligations, he said nothing about the Muslim refugees willingness to accept and abide by it. All legal immigrants into this country are required to take an oath to it.
Strict interpretation of Islam indeed forbids it. They have no separation of church and state. In Islamic countries, the church (Islam) is the state. Their governing bodies are required to abide by the rulings of their Sharia courts in all public and private matters. Exactly the opposite of our system.
Why does Mr. Russ think Europe is now in such a miserable unsustainable mess?
Indeed, in past decades a small minority of Muslim immigrants, self-defined moderates, have successfully settled in the U.S. They are ridiculed, shunned and even hated by other Muslims because they do not follow a strict reading of the Quran and Hadith. They consider themselves progressives.
However, the vast majority do strictly adhere to Islamic teaching (fundamentalism) and will never assimilate into any western culture. They will gather into their own neighborhoods and districts, as in Europe, secretly or openly adhering to Sharia until their numbers are increased enough that they feel empowered to change our esteemed laws to theirs. Laws that state women have only one-half the value of men, homosexuality carries a sentence of imprisonment or death, even the least criticism of Islam can be a death sentence. I would ask Mr. Russ how he feels about that! Constitutionally, of course.
Having been married to a Muslim in my youth I know of what I speak.
