Terrorists want massive publicity for their every outrage, followed by politicians and others generating hysteria, fear and repression.

It appears to me that terrorism has reared its ugly head in Montana, and we are playing right into their hands. Without having to fire a shot, or strap on a suicide vest, or even get on a plane and step on our soil, many Montanans have caved to the wishes of those who terrorize us. The generation of hysteria, fear and repression was palpable in the meeting the Ravalli County commissioners organized last month. We are allowing the mere prospect of having refugee families settling in our communities justify hateful vilification of the victims of those same terrorists.
We must follow the teachings of the Bible, and treat one another as we would be treated.
In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King:
Darkness cannot drive out darkness;
only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate;
only love can do that.
Hate multiplies hate,
violence multiplies violence,
and toughness multiplies toughness
in a descending spiral of destruction….
The chain reaction of evil —
hate begetting hate,
wars producing more wars —
must be broken,
or we shall be plunged
into the dark abyss of annihilation.
