Miss Montana Danielle Wineman visited several schools in western Montana on her Crown to Classroom Tour which focused on anti-bullying. Wineman of Cut Bank, a 23 year old theatre arts graduate of Stephens College, was crowned Miss Montana 2015 on June 13 in Glendive and is touring the state as an ambassador for Montana during her year of reign. She has visited 95 schools and shared her message with over 18,500 students. The theme of her presentation at Corvallis primary school last Thursday was “Act on Compassion.”
Wineman told the students that each of them is “the star of their own story” and, therefore, can determine what they think about themselves. Continuing the metaphor, she says the students also play roles in the stories of those they interact with.
“You play characters in other people¹s lives,” she told the students. “You can be the cool supporting sidekick character, or you can be a villain. Every time you use your words, you are making a conscious decision between using your words for the forces of good or the forces of evil.”
Wineman involved the students in her interactive presentation and emphasized that by refraining from negative comments, we help others maintain their own confidence and character.
Having played the piano for 17 years, she concluded the show with a piano solo.
