The season is winding down for volleyball with district tournaments on tap for this weekend. Florence will host the 6B tournament on Friday and Saturday while Victor will host the 13C tournament. Florence will play at 1pm on Friday.
Florence continued to dominate in their conference over the weekend. A week ago, they played Loyola who pushed them to four games but Florence still prevailed. On Thursday, Florence played Anaconda and again, it took only three games for the Lady Falcons to win, 25-17, 25-11, 25-21. Strong play at the net by Sabrina Hopcroft, Kezia Ward, and Megan Kowalski kept the Copperheads from getting into any sort of a rhythm.
On Saturday, Florence took on Class A Hamilton, and once again took control early and went on to win, 25-23, 25-11, 25-15. Hopcroft finished with 23 kills and 26 digs.
Florence def. Hamilton, 25-23, 25-11, 25-15.
Kills – Florence 42 (Sabrina Hopcroft 23), Hamilton 17 (Jordan Bauder 7). Blocks – Florence 5 (Megan Kowalski 2), Hamilton 1 (Tristy Searle). Digs – Florence 85 (Hopcroft 26), Hamilton 47 (Brooke Huxtable 14). Assists – Florence 42 (Rylie Hawkins 40), Hamilton 14 (Caitlin Dillon 13). Aces – Florence 6 (Hopcroft), Hamilton 0.
Darby picked up two wins over the weekend, besting Philipsburg and Alberton. The Lady Tigers rely upon Brianna Brickey, Kylie Fisher, Sarah Costello and Sarah Keating. Brickey saw quite a bit of time last year and has the height and reach to dominate at the net. Costello’s serving is tough and keeps opponents on their toes.
Darby def. Philipsburg, 25-19, 25-17, 23-25, 25-14.
Kills – Philipsburg 15 Darby 43 (Brianna Brickey 11). Blocks – Philipsburg 4, Darby 4 (Brickey 3). Digs – Philipsburg 71, Darby 14 (Kylie Fisher 4). Assists – Philipsburg 15, Darby 22 (Sierra Keating 14). Aces – Philipsburg 9, Darby 19 (Sarah Costello 7).
Darby defeated Alberton, 25-14, 21-25, 25-10, 25-12. Costello had eight of the Lady Tigers’ 22 aces.
Victor picked up a win over Lincoln in Lincoln. The Lady Pirates won in three games, 25-15, 25-17, 25-19. Jamie Burdett had nine of Victor’s 29 kills. Madison Allred had three blocks. Victor had a total of six blocks. Krissy Kuettel had seven digs and the entire team had 32 digs. Ali Elliot had 33 assists. She also has six aces. Victor had 15 total aces.
Corvallis and Butte Central are the two top teams in the Southwest A conference. They battled in Corvallis with the Blue Devils coming out on top. After dropping the first and second games, the Blue Devils came back to win the next three games and take the match. Holly Wilson had 36 assists and three aces.
Corvallis def. Butte Central, 23-25, 13-25, 25-18, 25-20, 15-10.
