Sixteen-year-old Stormy Dawn Hack of Stevensville is believed to have run away to Colorado in the company of another juvenile, according to Stevensville Police Chief James Marble. She was last seen in Stevensville on August 8 on the weekend of Creamery Picnic.
Marble said he has been working with police in Denver, Colorado and with other agencies in the state and that her identity has been entered into a national information database that could lead to her being identified.
In the meantime, according to Marble, they have received some reports of people spotting her in the county since then, based on a photograph that has been in circulation.
“But almost all of those reports have not been very helpful,” Marble said, “because there was no way to verify them. We need some good information, not somebody just saying they saw someone that looked like the girl in the photograph at K-mart, or things like that. By good information I mean something like the identity of someone accompanying her that we can track down or some place where someone knows she is staying.”
Marble said it seemed obvious to him that someone is trying to protect her and keep her hidden.
“We need someone to come forward and give us some legitimate information so we can try to talk to the girl,” he said. “I know that she had some issues at home with her mother, but those things can be worked out.”
“We don’t know who she’s with but she’s only 16 cannot take care of herself. Whoever is helping to keep her away from her mother is not serving her best interest,” he said.
Marble said he has also contacted the FBI but that the agency doesn’t help in the case of runaways, only with cases of missing or abducted children.
“I’ve done everything I can think to do,” said Marble. “Now it’s time for someone to step forward with some good information.” He said anyone can submit information anonymously. Anyone with information can call the Stevensville Police Department at 777-3011.
