I am grateful to those who have continued our conversation in the Star. Perhaps we can continue in person.
I suggest that Donna Gibney’s letter be renamed “Conservatism 101.” Surely no non-partisan dictionary, encyclopedia, or course titled “Government 101” would define democracy using such loaded terms as “mob rule” and “unlimited tyranny by this majority.” Clearly there’s lots to talk about, perhaps most helpfully on a personal basis rather than using politicians’ sound-bites.
And thank you to Chris Martin for saying, “I truly believe that people have the ability to figure things out if they want to,” and “Let’s ignore the politicians and do what is non-violent, thoughtful, and compassionate!” No, I am not in any respect a politician; I just care a lot about people, Montana, the USA, and the USA in the world.
So how ‘bout we get together and chat? For starters, we could meet at one of the blue picnic tables outside the Ravalli County Museum at noon or so on Thursday, August 13th. I’m retired, so that works for me; if it doesn’t for Chris, however, or for anyone else interested, you can contact me at maryft@charter.net and we can figure something out. I’ll be the average-looking older woman in jeans, glasses, and very short hair.
Thanks again!
