Lutheran preschool open house
Our Savior Lutheran Preschool of Stevensville will host the 2015/2016 school year’s open house on Wednesday, August 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. Parents of children currently enrolled and those who wish to inquire about fall registration are welcome. Families are encouraged to bring their young students. In the relaxed atmosphere parents and children can inspect the facility, meet the teachers, get acquainted with classmates as adults discuss the learning program. Participants may come any time between 5 and 7 to this informal gathering.
Preschool opens on Tuesday, September 8th for three-year-olds and Wednesday, September 9th for fours. Openings are still available in the three-year-old class. Parents wishing to reserve remaining spots or to be placed on a waiting list for the four-year-old class should call 369-2536 for more information.
Our Savior Lutheran Church, affiliated with the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod, is located at 184 Pine Hollow Road. About a mile south of the intersection of Middle Burnt Fork Road and the Eastside Highway, turn east onto Pine Hollow. Cross the tracks and the canal and the church will be on the left, marked by three crosses.
Community Band concert
Bitterroot Community Band’s last concert of the summer will be Wednesday, August 19 at 8 p.m. at the bandshell in Claudia Driscoll Park in Hamilton. Listen to show tunes, marches, patriotic and other light selections. All are welcome!

Back Country Horsemen
Bitter Root Back Country Horsemen host their last outdoor meeting of the summer on Thursday, August 20, at the Larry Creek Trailhead, located up Bass Creek Road (about 3 miles north of the Stevensville intersection on Hwy. 93). Potluck dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. and the general meeting begins at 7:00. Bring a chair and your own beverage. Progress on August trail projects and the fair fundraiser will be discussed. The North Valley Pachyderm Club will meet Friday, August 21 at 12 noon at The Frontier Café, Hwy 93 in Stevensville. Guest speaker will be Julie King, Bitterroot National Forest Supervisor. The North Valley Pachyderm Club is an educational arm of the Republican Party. All are welcome.

Bitterroot Classic Triathlon
The 10th annual Bitterroot Classic Triathlon will be held Saturday, August 22. The Triathlon entails a 750 yard swim, a 20k bike course and a 5k run. Register before August 1 to receive a free jersey! The Bitterroot Classic Triathlon is held in Hamilton at the Bitterroot Aquatic Center on Kurtz Lane. First swim heat will start at 8:30. Lone Rock playground spruce-up
A “Playground Spruce-Up” community event is planned for Saturday, August 22, from 8 to 11 a.m. at Lone Rock School, 1112 Three Mile Creek Road. Volunteers are needed to help clean up the grounds, pull weeds, haul brush, trim trees, paint and do minor maintenance. Bring gloves and tools for yard work (shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows), if you have them. Afterward, stay for refreshments and get to know other members of the Lone Rock School community.
Nature Journaling 101
Montana State Parks (stateparks.mt.gov) is hosting Nature Journaling 101 at Travelers’ Rest State Park, 6717 Hwy 12 West in Lolo on Saturday, August 22 at 11 a.m. Have you ever wondered how artists get so good at drawing? Do you like to create art while you’re outside, hiking or camping in the woods? Join us for a lesson in nature journaling! Small beginning journals will be provided for practice and to take home. All artists have to start somewhere so all ability levels are welcome. This program is also part of the Trekker Kids series and is open to kids in 2nd through 6th grade. Trekker Kids is a series of activities and programs for kids and families that celebrate the outdoors of western Montana and the rich history of the Travelers’ Rest site. Regular programs are held on Saturdays at 11 a.m. unless otherwise posted. Cost is $2 per child and goes to support further Trekker Kids programs.

Museum exhibit
“The People of Fire and Ice” exhibit opens on Saturday, August 22 at the Ravalli County Museum, 205 Bedford, Hamilton. Long before Yellowstone was a National Park, the region was utilized for its many resources and inhabited by humans. This exhibition explores the history and lore of humans in the Yellowstone area, 11,000 years ago to today. Six humanities themes are explored throughout “The People of Fire and Ice,” including History, Archaeology, Anthropology, Art History, Folklore, and Jurisprudence. The exhibit was organized by the Washakie Museum and History Discussion Group, Worland WY. The exhibit runs through November 10. Call 363-3338 for more information.

Breakfast in the Park
The Victor Heritage Museum is sponsoring Breakfast in the Park at the Victor Park on Sunday, August 23 from 8 to 11a.m. Menu will be Apple Cinnamon Belgian Waffles with syrup and whipped topping, link sausages, and beakfast beverages. The Center for Spiritual Living hosts Saladin Frank Pelfrey presenting “The Heart of Community” on Sunday, August 23 at 10 a.m. Saladin is a teacher in the Sufi tradition and shares a heart-centered message about being a nurturing community. Drum Circle
An African Drum Circle will take place on Monday, August 24 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Bring your drum, rattles, and other instruments and be part of the fun. No drums? Corvallis Sewer District

Intro to I Ching
I Ching is a 3,000 year old Chinese text used for divination and self-awareness. Come and learn how to interpret I Ching readings to enhance and set intentions. Zen Buddhism class
Zen Buddhism class will be held Wednesday, August 26 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Center for Spiritual Living, 1720 N. First Street, Suite C in Selway Commons, north of Sears in Hamilton. Learn the fundamental teachings of the Buddha as taught by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh including exercises of mindful breathing, listening, walking, eating; the Eightfold Path with the basic teaching on Mindfulness; the Five Precepts for living in the world; and the Heart Sutra.
