Regarding Mary Fahnestock-Thomas’ last two week’s letters to the editor, I would like to know why you are so passionate about racism, gender, and ServiceNation? What is it that compels you to write about these “issues”? I agree, “There’s no ultimate fix except caring about the individual people around us — all of them.” I do not agree with your methods; they are not congruent with your ultimate fix! I appreciate your solution but not your means for accomplishing it. The end does not justify your means.
Regarding Jason Cornelius’ response to Mary, he makes several great points. I have not seen these stickers either. Also, Mary’s newest letter, “Let’s Talk” I would love to get the conversations going! People learn that way, and we all benefit from different perspectives. We all live on this planet. However, I hesitate to enter political discussions because many people on both sides of the issues are just plain nasty. Until we can care about the individual people around us (as Mary advocates) more than the passion for an issue, we will never be able to have a decent discussion. I would love to be the catalyst that starts these conversations, but I am not willing to subject myself to the bullying and brutality of people who care more about their passionate pet projects and their misguided means for accomplishing a simple golden rule.
Please let me know when you care more about a person than any particular belief you hold. Then we can have a great conversation. Until bullying in our own heart stops, we have no right to judge others for the same wrongdoing. This is my opinion.
