The Corvallis Blue Devils won both the boys and girls divisional championship over the weekend. DJ Pekoc will make his fourth trip to state and has hopes of bringing home the singles championship. He was second last year. He defeated Alex Raymond of Hamilton, 6-1, 6-1. Jesse Knapp will also move on for Corvallis. In the doubles, Riley Jessop and Caleb Powell will advance with a second place finish.
Laramie McHugh will have a chance to defend her state title for the girl’s singles. She defeated her teammate, Amber Wissenbach, 6-2, 6-1. The doubles team of Dakota Vaccaro and Miriam Montgomery claimed another title for the Blue Devils in doubles play. They won, 6-1, 6-1.
Stevensville’s doubles team of Curtis Liston and Colton Belcourt took the championship in boys’ doubles. They defeated Jessop and Powell, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. Danielle Haacke and Saya Shimazaki topped Nye and Ferris from Dillon for third place, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.
The state Class A tennis tournament begins this week in Missoula.
