The Sapphire Twilight Track meet is one of the nicest track meets around. The view of the Sapphire Mountains, greening hills, and top athletes competing make for a very pleasant evening. This year there were five teams competing: Corvallis, Hamilton, Columbia Falls, Polson and Charlo. These teams brought their best and it showed.
Six meet records were either broken or tied throughout the night. In addition, three athletes from Corvallis, Jayce Gilder, Jane Booth, and Tyler Olson all set the best mark in the state in Class A in the discus, high jump, and javelin. Olson’s mark of 197’4” is the best javelin throw in all classes in Montana. Justin Moore of Corvallis won the 400 with a time of 52.94 which set that record. Taylor Sylvester of Corvallis won the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.55 and set that record.
On the girls’ side, Taylor Bess of Hamilton won the long jump with a leap of 16’10” which was four inches farther than the old record. Booth’s high jump mark of 5’6” is not only the state’s best in Class A at this time but tied her old mark at the meet which was set in 2013. Katelyn Frost’s pole vault of 11’ tied the meet record set by Frost last year.
