K of C Fish Fry
The Knights of Columbus will hold a Lenten Friday Fish Fry on Friday, March 6 from 5 to 6:45 p.m. at St. Francis Pastoral Center, 411 S. 5th, Hamilton. This is an excellent opportunity to get out of the house and let someone else do the cooking for you. The all-you-can-eat meal consists of fish, fries, coleslaw, and mac n cheese, vegetables, dessert and soft beverage. Horsemanship seminar
Bitter Root Back Country Horsemen invite the public to a horsemanship seminar on Saturday, March 7 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at C-Max Stables, 657 Bass Lane, in Corvallis. The morning session will be followed by a chili feed and question and answer period. Participants should bring a chair and wear warm clothing. Topics covered (using demonstration stock) include equine behavior, safe handling, catching, tying, saddling and groundwork. Lion quota meeting
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) is seeking input on mountain lion harvest quotas at a public meeting in Missoula on Saturday, March 7. The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Parkside and run until 2:30 p.m. if needed.
“We want to hear from anyone with an interest in mountain lion numbers in FWP Region 2,” said Mike Thompson, Region 2 Wildlife Manager. “We’re especially interested in hearing what hunters and others have seen for lions and lion tracks this fall and winter, and to hear people’s preferences for future harvest quotas.”
FWP will use the information gathered from the public alongside its harvest and population data to propose lion harvest quotas for the upcoming fall, winter and late-winter hunting seasons in Region 2.
The Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission will review all regional mountain lion harvest proposals at its April 9 meeting in Billings, where the Commission will adopt tentative recommendations for further public review. The Commission is scheduled to make its final decision on the 2015 lion harvest quotas at its June meeting.
Archery and Crafts for kids!

Mountain goat presentation
The public is invited to a free presentation by wildlife biologist Bruce Smith on America’s greatest rock climber: Our American Mountain Goat on Saturday, March 7 at 7 p.m. at the Bitterroot River Inn, 139 Bitterroot Plaza Drive, Hamilton. In “Life on the Rocks: A Portrait of the American Mountain Goat”, Bruce will explore the ecology of this charismatic wilderness icon that lives amongst the crags of Montana’s Bitterroot Mountains. Bruce’s 2014 publication of “Life on the Rocks” won the National Outdoor Book Award. He’ll share amazing photos and discuss the many challenges that goats face today. Bruce is retired from the US Fish and Wildlife Service after a 30 year career. He went to the University of Montana for his B.S. and M.S. degrees, doing his graduate research on mountain goats here in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. He earned his PhD at the University of Wyoming and worked in Wyoming as a federal wildlife manager on the Wind River Indian Reservation and National Elk Refuge. Bruce is a US Marine combat veteran of Vietnam and now lives in Sheridan, Montana. He still returns to the Bitterroot high country to search for the elusive mountain goat. Bruce’s program, a celebration of goats and wilderness, is sponsored by Friends of the Bitterroot, Montana Wildlife Federation, Bitterroot National Forest, The Selway-Bitterroot Frank Church Foundation, Wilderness Watch, Bitterroot Cross-country Ski Club, and Defenders of Wildlife.

Stevensville Playhouse auditions
Stevensville Playhouse will be holding auditions for “Welcome to Dear Old Butte, Mr. Bryan” on Monday, March 9 and Tuesday, March 11 from 7 to 9 p.m. “Butte” is an original musical written by members of the Stevensville community and will be directed by Gretchen Spiess. The play tells the story of a newspaper man who has come to Butte to cover the arrival of Mr. Bryan, the first presidential candidate ever to visit Montana. It is August of 1896 and at first he is not taken with Butte, until he meets the eclectic mix of hardworking people that call Butte home. Filled with music, poetry, laughter and history, this play is a lot of fun to be in. The cast consists of 17 men, nine women and nine kids. You will need to read a small piece of the play and sing. Rehearsals will begin March 23 and the play will be performed on May 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, and 17. Rehearsals will be light for most characters and schedules can be worked around till April 20, then everyone must be at all rehearsals till opening.
