We read the anonymous letter in your paper of Sept. 24th written by a parent concerning what had happened to their child many years ago.
We are two retired professionals, I had a Family Practice in Spokane and my wife was a school counselor. We both worked with child abuse cases in the past and we were disheartened to hear of another case and how a system which is required to report child abuse let them down. We were legally required to be reporters. We did not have to investigate or to prove that there was abuse, we just had to report a suspicion of abuse. The proving was up to the experts, such as Emma’s House here in Hamilton. We are so proud that there is such a caring place for our children as Emma’s House.
Our hopes are that in the future such organizations as the one this parent belonged to realize how they failed the family and the child and that they realize their obligations are to protect the child and not to protect their reputations.
