Since the primary which took place in June of this year, I have had the opportunity to get to know Mr. Pearson. He is a candidate for the position I am retiring from as Justice of the Peace, Dept. 1. In conversing with him, it is clear that he wishes to give back to his community, is intelligent and has a thirst for wanting to become knowledgeable regarding the proceedings that take place in a courtroom and the laws that apply to cases brought before the court.
The public may not be aware that in this great state of ours, to be a judge in the Courts of Limited Jurisdiction you do not have to have a law degree nor even have a legal background. Many of our judges have come from other professions and do a reputable job on the bench. Twice a year there is training for the judges that is mandatory and this is where they learn about the law and procedures.
In further observation of Mr. Pearson, I found him to be quite candid. I did not find any traits of deception, untrustworthiness, bias, racism or embellishment of the truth. He understands that this position requires that he be humble and not use it to wield power indiscriminately. Traits are many times ingrained in a person. That is why I am supporting Mr. Pearson over his opponent, Jennifer Ray. I do not take my endorsement lightly, but having observed Ms. Ray in her capacity, as not only a Court Administrator for Judge Jim Bailey, but also as an administrative assistant for both myself and Judge Bailey, I believe Mr. Pearson to be the appropriate candidate for Justice of the Peace, Dept. 1.
