No matter what national political pundits say about us being a red state, Montanans have shown time and time again that we vote for the person, not the party, and that we are a purple state.
I consider myself an Independent (like a lot of you) but due to lack of people running as Independents, I take a long, hard look at folks in the two prominent parties asking for my vote. I went to candidates’ websites, Facebook pages and read newspaper articles about them and their opponents. I visited Project Vote Smart on the web to see how incumbents voted.
This year I was happy to learn about Amanda Curtis (running for U.S. Senate) and John Lewis (running for U.S. House of Representatives). Their values are very close to mine (they are working class people, love the outdoors, and demonstrate intelligence and ethics), and their campaigns are being funded by individual donations from Montanans like themselves.
When my ballot comes in the mail after October 6, I am confident that my vote for Curtis and Lewis will mean better representation in Washington for all Montanans.
