BPL Used Book Sale
Attention all Bibliophiles! The 2014 Annual Friends of the Bitterroot Public Library Used Book Sale is coming to the downstairs Community Room in the Bitterroot Public Library at 306 State Street in Hamilton September 24-27. The sale times will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Wednesday evening only there will be a $3.00 admission for adults. The price for all items is $1.00 per inch thick.
The ever-popular Bag Sale when all the items that can be stuffed in a grocery bag are $3.00 per bag will be on Saturday – bring you own bags or we will provide them. Another popular feature of the book sale is free books all week long outside on the sidewalk.
Also the Silent Auction of Special Items will start on Wednesday at 5 p.m. and end at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Bitterroot Quilters’ Guild
The Bitterroot Quilters’ Guild’s first meeting of this year will be on Wednesday, September 24 at 6:30 p.m. at Daly-Leach Funeral Home, 1010 W. Main, Hamilton. Guest artist, Terrie Linn Kygar, author of “Creative Quilts from Your Crayon Box,” will share her gorgeous projects, demo her crayon magic, and do a book signing. All are invited to attend.
Compost workshop
An Introduction to Compost Workshop, hosted by MSU-Ravalli County Extension, will be held Wednesday, September 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Homestead Organics in Hamilton. Classes will cover the basics of composting and decomposition, what to compost and what not to compost, developing your own compost recipe and how to use compost in your landscape. RASS training
Western MT Addiction Services will be holding a Responsible Alcohol Sales and Service training on Thursday, September 25 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at 209 N. 10th St Suite C in Hamilton. The cost of the training is $15 for materials (cash only please). The “Let’s Control It” curriculum is approved as a state-mandated RASS training by the MT Dept of Revenue and participants will receive a certificate of completion. Women’s Wellness Center benefit
Ravalli Women’s Wellness Center presents “A Bitterroot Wonderland” on Thursday, September 25 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Daly Mansion, 251 Eastside Hwy, Hamilton. Dust off your coat tails and bright party dresses for an evening of color, food, wonderland games, music, kids crafts and fun to support women’s health services in Ravalli County. There will be gourmet food, enchanting cocktails, Dessert Dash, Flamingo Croquet, Life-Sized Chess, live auction, Paddle Call and a dance performance. Tickets are $30 each. Car Show
The Bitterrodder Car Club will be hosting a car show on Thursday, September 25 at the Bitterroot Valley Elks Lodge in Hamilton from 4 to 9 p.m. A barbecue will be held at the Elks with lots of good food, music and hot rods. The Stevensville Town Council will meet Thursday, September 25 at 7 p.m. at the town hall, 206 Buck. Agenda items include council consent of appointments for the Adhoc Executive Compensation Advisory Committee, discussion of a letter from Police Chief Marble regarding curfew, and proposed Buy Local Program for the Town of Stevensville, to name a few.

Driver safety class
An AARP Driver Safety Class (formerly ’55 Alive’) will be presented at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital, 1200 Westwood Drive in Hamilton, on Friday, September 26. The class will begin at 9 a.m. and last approximately four hours. While this safe driving strategies class is designed for drivers age 50 and over, all drivers are welcome. The class fee is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. There are no written exams or driving tests and, Montana mandates an insurance discount for qualified graduates. Trout Unlimited banquet
The 35th annual Bitterroot Trout Unlimited banquet and auction will be held Friday, September 26 at the Bitterroot River Inn and tickets are now on sale. This is a great time to see old friends, meet new ones, swap yarns and make plans for next year’s fishing. A great dinner is provided by Riversong Catering, beverage service by the Banque Club including Bitterroot Brewing brews. Auction services provided by Doug Mason.

MDMH Specialty Clinic benefit
The Bitter Root Brewery in Hamilton will be hosting a fundraiser on Friday, September 26th for the Specialty Clinic at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital. Joan Zen will provide the entertainment and the beer will be flowing! The Specialty Clinic is a partnership between St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula and Marcus Daly Memorial. The clinic functions once a week as a chemotherapy center in Hamilton and takes care of up to 26 patients per day.
A raffle drawing will be held for five packages. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20 and are on sale at Bitter Root Brewery through September 26th. Participants will be able to choose which package they would like the chance to win: Montana Beer Package; Montana Spirits Package; Private Beer Dinner for six at Bitter Root Brewery; Downtown Hamilton Package or Gourmet Float Trip for 4! Stevensville Playhouse production
“Please, Sir, may I have some more…” The Stevensville Playhouse is proud to present “Oliver!”, the musical version of Charles Dickens’ classic, “Oliver Twist”, with familiar songs such as “Food, Glorious Food” and “Consider Yourself.” And yes, it does have a happy ending! The Center for Spiritual Living invites everyone to a one-day health symposium, “Pathways to Wellness: Exploring Holistic Options” on Saturday, September 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Center in Hamilton. Discussions and demonstrations with nine different wellness service providers; special drawings; and discount offers. Cost is $10 which includes lunch and refreshments. Lutheran Women’s Missionary League
The women of Our Savior Lutheran Church’s Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) are planning an activity on Saturday, September 27, at 1 p.m. in the church Fellowship hall. Because it will be of interest to many women, they are inviting community women to join them.
Two area experts will lead informal classes, one in learning about useful herbs and their health benefits, the other in arranging flowers in unique and unexpected ways. There will be hands-on experience, fellowship and laughter.

Golden Age benefit
Last weekend’s garage sale at the Golden Age Hall in Hamilton was such a success that it will continue again Sunday, September 28 with a lot more new items added including an older usable upright piano, a small computer desk with slideout for keyboard. The sale will begin at 1 p.m. The sale will be interrupted at 2 p.m. for a country western music show with the garage sale to resume after the show ends. Local country-western musicians will take the stage to perform many of your old favorites, country standards and some newer country hits too. Musicians include Del Olson, Bob Olson, Lilly Ross, Sharon Larson and Bill Neaves. There is no admission charge for the concert but donations will be accepted to help keep the club operating. The garage sale will end at 5 p.m.Coffee and doughnuts will be for sale during the afternoon. Plan to check out the sale and enjoy country music as well. The hall is located at 727 South Fifth Street in Hamilton near the Rocky Mountain Lab.
Teller Walk for Wildlife
The Teller’s first Walk for Wildlife, a 2-mile or 5K Family Fun Walk or Run to benefit wildlife, will be held Sunday, September 28. Start at 2 p.m. at the Slack Barn, located at 1180 Chaffin Lane in Corvallis, and learn about wildlife, habitat and Teller’s programs at four informative stops on Teller’s main property. Cost is $20 for adults registered by September 20, $25 after Sept. 20 and at the door, $10 for ages 11-17 and free for ages 10 and under. This is a great group of high school youth Making Some Noise about the prevention of tobacco, alcohol and other drug abuse and we need you to change the world! We have a great year coming up and hope to see all our past members and brand new members at the first meeting! You provide your transportation to the meeting spot and breakfast and lunch is provided as well as activities to help reduce underage use of abusive drugs.
