Disabled American Veterans is seeking volunteer drivers to take veterans to and from their Veterans Administration (VA) approved medical appointments. Drivers are needed now to serve the entire Missoula and Bitterroot area.
The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) is a tax-deductible, non-profit organization run by volunteers. During the past year, our six vehicles that operate in the Missoula and Bitterroot Valleys have transported 2,275 veterans and logged 136,688 miles taking veterans to and from their VA approved medical appointments.
This program offers the VA a significant savings, because the veterans using the transportation services don’t receive the mileage reimbursement that veterans who drive themselves would receive. There are a great many veterans who are incapable of driving themselves or have no one that can drive them. These veterans need your help.
The DAV Veterans Transportation Service provides the vehicles, but drivers volunteer their time. We are very short of drivers and desperately need volunteers for this program to continue the way it has in the past. Drivers only need a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance. They will be required to pass a physical and background check to ensure the safety of the veterans and other drivers. The VA covers the cost of these checks.
To volunteer in the Bitterroot, please contact Katherine at 363-8396. To volunteer in Missoula, contact Sheryl at 207-1468.
