The annual Bitterroot Stockgrowers dinner and day seminars will be this Saturday, January 11, at 5 p.m. at St. Mary’s Family Center in Stevensville. A no host bar will open the evening and dinner will follow. The Knights of Columbus will serve a prime rib dinner family style. Cost is $25 per person. The highlight of the evening is the Annual Service Contribution Award. This is the seventh year this has been awarded. Also, the 2013 Steer of Merit Award Winners will be honored.
During the day, four seminars will be held. There will be a panel discussion with young farmers and ranchers in the valley on how to succeed in the industry today. A pasture improvement and management seminar will follow. For the 4H and FFA members with large animal projects, a workshop on how to meet the requirements will be held in the basement of St. Mary’s Mission museum at 12:30. The final workshop will be on packing for the horse enthusiast with Smoke Elser presenting.
Funds raised by the Bitterroot Stockgrowers Association goes to a variety of projects and programs. The programs include the FFA programs at Stevensville and Victor as well as the state FFA Foundation, the 4H Steer of Merit and Carcass Evaluation awards, scholarships to the AI School at Huls Dairy, Stevensville Main Street Western Heritage Days Chuckwagon Cook Off, and new this year, the South Dakota Relief Fund.
