Ravalli County Commissioner Suzy Foss has explained that one of her reasons for voting to reject Title X funding, which for forty years has supported health care for low-income women in our community, is her concern about the federal debt. She has also stated that she thinks private donations could – perhaps should? – replace tax-payer money. Presumably her colleagues who voted with her – Commissioners Jeff Burrows and Ron Stolz – agree with her.
So I have a challenge for these Commissioners: Act on your principles! Refuse to accept health insurance that is paid for by the taxpayers of Ravalli County! Show even more courageous leadership by announcing that you will no longer accept payment for your services from taxpayer-provided funds and will rely on private donations!
I solemnly pledge that if you do so, I will personally contribute one dollar for each of you, because that is exactly how much your disservice to this county is worth.
