I am writing in response to last week’s Star article about the North Valley Public Library. It is unfortunate that the article emphasized the mysterious disappearance of our former director rather than focusing on the celebration of John Conlan, long standing president of the library board of trustees.
John has been an outstanding citizen active in community service in and around Stevensville for more than twenty years, not only at the library but on various park boards and the Stevensville Main Street Association as well. John insured that our library was Stevensville’s community hub where all people are welcomed and freedom of thought and expression were encouraged. As a library trustee and President, John was our leader, our coach and our surrogate parent during times of trouble. No one has ever expressed as much genuine concern and deep loyalty toward the staff of the library as John has. During my lifetime of employment, there are few individuals that I respect more than John Conlan. He spent hours upon hours making sure all was well at the library, often coming in every day. On behalf of the entire NVPL staff, volunteers and board of trustees, I want to express our deepest respect and appreciation for all that John did for us. He taught us what a true leader is. Thank you, John, for all you have meant to our library. North Valley Public Library is a better place because of you.
