Three move on to NHSF Rodeo

June 11, 2013 by Jean Schurman

Three high school rodeo contestants from the Bitterroot Valley will be competing at the National High School Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyoming, this July. Kris Anderson of Hamilton, Brandon Yerian of Corvallis, and Victor’s Ryanne Tracy will make the trek to Wyoming after their top four finishes at the state high school rodeo this weekend in Bozeman.

Kris Anderson finished fourth in the boy’s cow cutting event. He finished fifth in the first go around, and sixth in the second go. Anderson split fourth and fifth place in the championship go. He split the go with Carson King and edged King by one point for the final spot to national.

Yerian and his partner, Will Powell of St. Ignatius, came into the state rodeo finals in first place. They finished out of the top 10 in the first go-around with a time of 13.32 seconds. Their time in the second go around was 25.46 but they finished eighth and came back in the championship round. The duo came out of the box and caught their steer in 5.70 seconds to take that round. They finished second in the average and finished second in the year end points.

Ryanne Tracy did not have the state finals she wanted to. She came into the finals tied for the lead in the goat tying. Her first run was 8.21 but the second run didn’t go as well. She had a time of 12.09 seconds but it was good enough to qualify her for the championship round. Although she was trailing in the points, she came back and tied the goat in 7.65 to win the round and finish second overall.
