Bucs lose to Mavs, clobber Salmon

Bucs lose to Mavs, clobber Salmon

The Bitterroot Bucs American Legion baseball team has had an up and down season so far. They are at the midway point of the season with mainly tournaments left to play in. Manager Brandon Brown said the key has been pitching for his team. With his top two pitchers sidelined by injuries, the Bucs have had to rely on younger, more inexperienced pitchers.

Last Thursday, the Bucs were host to the Missoula A Mavs in a conference game. The Mavs won, 6-5, and held off a late charging Bucs team for the win. The Bucs were fresh early on and looked as if they would have the upper hand in the game. Dylan Read hit a stand up triple. Tyler Thorson knocked him in and the Bucs were on the scoreboard.

No one crossed the plate until the fifth inning when Missoula drove in three runs. Bitterroot scored once in the sixth inning and then came back in the seventh inning when Sage Hansen hit a two run double and tied the game.

Cody Rolshoven was the starting pitcher for the Bucs. He was relieved by Chance Sage who took the loss. Tommy Shepard came and finished the game. The Bucs were led by Kadin Beller and Reed who each had a triple and an RBI. Hansen finished with three RBIs.

“We had guys on the mound today that threw strikes for us but our offense wasn’t there today,” said Brown.

Saturday, the Salmon Savages came to Florence for a double header. The day was dedicated to longtime fan, Bea Scotten. The Bucs rolled over Salmon, 18-0, in the first game without hitting a home run. Patrick Pape pitched a near perfect game. In the second game, the Bucs won, 13-2. Thorson, Noah Baney and Kevin McGee all had home runs. Shepard was the winning pitcher.
