Faced with a $370,000 budget shortfall, the Hamilton School Board at a special meeting held March 28 decided a reduction in the district’s workforce was in order. The previous decision to close the Grantsdale Elementary School is expected to save about a third of that shortfall, but Superintendent Tom Korst warned, at the time, that a reduction in the workforce would probably be required to meet the entire shortfall.
At the special meeting on Thursday, eleven jobs were eliminated. One Washington Middle School teacher resigned and another non-tenured teacher’s contract was not renewed. Three paraprofessional positions in the high school were eliminated. Three paraprofessional positions at Washington School were also eliminated, as was a preschool teaching position. The Art Specialist position and a grant writing/PR position were also eliminated.
The position of High School Principal was given to Dan Kimzey.
