In this bestseller, Dr. M. Scott Peck draws heavily upon his own professional experience as a practicing psychiatrist to suggest ways in which confronting and solving our problems – and suffering through the changes – can enable us to reach a higher level of self-understanding.
Confronting and solving our problems is a painful process, which most of us attempt to avoid. And the very avoidance results in greater pain and an inability to grow both mentally and spiritually. Dr. Peck discusses the nature of loving relationships: how to recognize true compatibility; how to distinguish dependency from love; how to become one’s own person; how to be a more sensitive parent. This highly-readable work is built on the premise that there is no distinction between the process of achieving spiritual growth and achieving mental growth.
M. Scott Peck’s publishing history reflects his own evolution as a serious and widely acclaimed writer, thinker, psychiatrist, and spiritual guide. Since this groundbreaking bestseller, Scott Peck’s insatiable intellectual curiosity has taken him in various new directions with virtually each successive new book.
The Fellowship Club meets every second Thursday of the month in the West Meeting Room of the Bitterroot Public Library and is free and open to anyone seeking to promote individual and collective well being.
