As a Vietnam veteran who served in Vietnam I remember very clearly that it was an extremely unpopular war. There were no signs in airports welcoming us home nor any thank yous for service rendered. There were just private hugs from loving family members and a quick ride home with some bitterness.
This past weekend’s ceremonies ended all that as the welcoming applause lauded upon us by the students of Lone Rock, and Stevi Junior and Senior High Schools wasn’t just polite applause but built to a crescendo that entered our very psyche. It was a heartwarming and heartfelt gift that was greatly appreciated and was more soothing than a loving parent’s soft caress. On behalf of my sister and brother veterans, I would like to extend my deepest appreciation to the faculty and students of these schools and to the townspeople of Stevensville. Thank you.
