I’ve just been made aware of the changes to the billboard ordinance which are being discussed. I think increasing the size of billboards by 2000% is unnecessary and intrusive.
I am not in favor of billboards in general. I am not at all certain that the benefits to the various advertisers outweigh the commercialization of the Hwy 93 corridor. Many, many folks live here because of the scenery, not because of the commercial interests that are here.
There are dozens of other ways to promote various businesses, especially those that can afford to pay for billboards of the size you are considering. I would rather have folks glance at the mountains and meadows along the highway than feel compelled to read a billboard, perhaps distracting their attention from the business of driving.
Maintaining a rural atmosphere is a top priority for this voter who has been a local resident for fifteen years. I am not interested in having our community look like a California freeway. If I was not employed as a day worker, I would attend the Commissioners’ meeting to share my thoughts. I suggest an evening meeting be called for input by the public so working people can be heard.
