I understand that the present Ravalli County Commissioners are revisiting and considering revoking the present Ravalli County Sign Ordinance that sets limits for off-premise road signs on Highway 93 and other roads in the county.
This step would be unfortunate, in my opinion, and would be a step back in improving and maintaining the ambience that is one of the main reasons for living in the Bitterroot Valley.
This ordinance was passed by Commissioners Alan Thompson, Smut Warren and me, after carefully considering extensive testimony and impressive research from county residents, sign engineers and billboard interests. A good amount of time was spent on this effort.
I urge the present commissioners to take as much time and use as widely the resources available to address this model ordinance that is enjoyed by many.

Who will benefit by making the signs larger? Not the people who choose to live here because of the scenery and outdoor life. Not the tourists who come for the beauty and spend their dollars here. It is not broke so why change it?
