Commissioner Matt Kanenwisher submitted a handwritten letter of resignation last week stating in one sentence that he was resigning his position effective immediately. The Ravalli County Republican Central Committee plans to submit three names to be considered by the County Commissioners for a replacement who will be appointed to serve until the November election when the position will be filled for the remainder of the term.
The Central Committee is expected to narrow an initial list of six names down to three at a meeting on June 12. If the Commissioners decline to appoint any of the three, another three names will be submitted and the commissioners will choose one from the six candidates.
In the meantime, the Republican, Democratic and Libertarian parties may each place a name on the ballot for the November election. Anyone else may also place their own name on the ballot by submitting a petition signed by enough voters.
