Ravalli County Commissioner Matt Kanenwisher announced last month that he would be turning in his resignation at the end of May or early June. He announced his intention early so that the Republican Central Committee would have time to adequately seek and vet candidates for his replacement.
According to law the central committee of the party of the resigning official may submit three names to the county commissioners for consideration for appointment to the position until the next election in November.
At a large meeting in May, the Republican Central Committee solicited names of those interested in being among the three submitted to the commission. Six possible candidates emerged including Glenda Wiles, Clay Dethlefsen, Robert Meyers, Bill Menager, Jeff Burrows and Ken Payne.
Terry Nelson, Chairman of the Republican Central Committee, said the Central Committee will have the opportunity to narrow the replacement candidates down to three and possibly pick a candidate to place on the November ballot at its next scheduled meeting on June 12.
