Cowgirls and cowboys descended upon Darby for one of the few remaining high school rodeos this season. The two-day event is actually two rodeos with points tallied for each day. Prior to the rodeo, on Friday, a cutting competition was held at Walt and Vickie Stewart’s place in Corvallis. In the first cutting, Victor’s Raegan Tracy took third and Florence’s Jill Harris finished fourth. Harris was second in the second competition and Raegan Tracy was sixth.
The Bitterroot Valley High School Rodeo team had good success on Saturday. In the barrel racing, Raegan Tracy was second, Corvallis’ Kelsey Trexler was fifth, Shelby Robinson of Stevensville was eighth, McKayla McNamara of Stevensville was ninth and Makenzie Melton of Victor was 10th. McNamara was fifth in the pole bending and Raegan Tracy was sixth. Ryanne Tracy of Victor won the goat tying. Raegan Tracy was third, McNamara was seventh and Alyssa Johnson of Corvallis was 10th. Ryanne Tracy also won the breakaway roping. Raegan Tracy was sixth and Trexler was seventh.
Brandon Yerian of Corvallis won the tie down roping with a 13.0 time. Brady Cather of Lolo and Colin Moore of Florence were second in the team roping, and Will Powell and Yerian were fourth in that event.
The second rodeo of the weekend was on Sunday. In the barrel racing, Trexler was third, Robinson was sixth, McNamara was ninth, and Melton 10th. Trexler won the pole bending. Robinson finished third, McNamra fourth, Raegan Tracy fifth, and Callie Roberts was ninth. Ryanne Tracy won the breakaway again. Raegan was second, Trexler third and McNamara was fourth. Raegan Tracy won the goat tying, Ryanne Tracy was second, Johnson was eighth and McNamara was ninth. Yerian took second in the calf roping. He and his partner, Powell of St. Ignatius, won the team roping.
The final weekend of high school rodeo is this weekend. Missoula and Drummond are both having rodeos. The state high school finals will be in Bozeman in three weeks.
