Darby wins Western C

May 23, 2012 by Jean Schurman

The Darby boys’ team put up 100 points to claim the Western C Divisional track title in Corvallis over the weekend. Doug Raymer won four races – the 400, 800, 1,600 and 3,200 – in the two-day meet. He was challenged a bit in the 400 by Charlo’s Stephen Delaney. The future Griz broke a 28-year-old divisional record in the 800 when he ran a blistering 1:55.65. His 3,200 time was 10:14.30 and the 1,600, which he ran on Saturday, was 4:39.63

But it wasn’t just Raymer that contributed to the win. Jeremy Campbell finished second in the 800 and the 1,600 behind Raymer. Campbell was fourth in the high jump and fifth in the triple jump. Colton Johnston finished fourth in the 100-meter and was second in the shot put. Garrett McCormack was fifth in the 800 and Sean Hansen was third in the 3,200. Cougan Kidd took sixth in the javelin and Matt Robbins was sixth in the 300 hurdles. Darby’s 400-meter relay team finished second as did their 1,600-meter relay team.

Victor finished in third place at the Western C. Kyle Ball won the triple jump with a mark of 43 feet even and the long jump with a mark of 20-1.5. Ball was second in the javelin (175-1), fifth in the high jump and second in the 300 hurdles. Kurt Manely won the javelin with a throw of 175-11. Tyler Coorough finished third in the triple jump and third in the long jump.

Darby’s Keely Ehmann won the 300 hurdles and was third in the 200-meter race. Victor’s Julie Elkinton finished sixth in the pole vault.

The top five finishers in each event will advance to the state meet in Butte this weekend.
