BPL preschool story time

Preschoolers are invited to meet in the children’s corner of the Bitterroot Public Library in Hamilton on Wednesday, November 16 to enjoy “Feelings” with storyteller Holli Hayes. Story time begins at 10:30 a.m. and is designed for children 3-5 years of age. All story times are free and open to the public. For information call 363-1670.

 

NVPL story time

Toddler/Preschool Storytime will be held Wednesday, November 16 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the North Valley Public Library, 208 Main, Stevensville. Storytime at the library is an important tool to help develop early literacy skills in toddlers and preschoolers. November is a month to give thanks and this week participants will be giving thanks to their families. Hear stories about siblings, moms, dads and grandparents, color and glue leaves onto your very own family tree and share a healthy and delicious snack. The event is free. Victor Park District

The Victor Park District will hold its November meeting on the third Wednesday of the month, and the December meeting on the second Wednesday, rather than its usual fourth Thursday, in order to miss the holidays. The next meeting will be Wednesday, November 16 at 7 p.m. at the Farmers State Bank meeting room in Victor (enter rear door). Discussion of the upcoming 2012 budget will begin in November and the budget will be finalized in December. The December meeting will be Wednesday, December 14. Hospice teleconference

November is National Hospice Month and Marcus Daly Hospice is hosting the Hospice Foundation of America’s educational program, “Beyond Kubler-Ross:  New Perspectives on Death, Dying and Grief” teleconference. The pre-recorded educational program will be held Thursday, November 17 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in conference room B/C, at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital, 1200 Westwood Drive, Hamilton. The three-hour program will explore the most current theoretical perspectives on death, dying, and grief, emphasizing how these areas have been challenged and developed since the 1969 publication of, “On Death and Dying” by Kubler-Ross. The program will consist of two one-hour segments, Part 1: The Dying Process, Part 2: New Perspectives on Grief, to be followed by approximately 30 minutes of discussion.

This program is for professionals and the public alike and is useful for all levels of education; entry level, intermediate or advanced. Continuing Education credits are available and the program is purposeful for Clergy, counselors, nurses, nursing home administrators, social workers, case managers, psychologists, physicians, funeral directors, marriage and family therapists, caregivers and those working with death, dying, grief or bereavement. Book discussion group

“Brown Bag It” Book Discussion occurs on Thursday, November 17 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. in the West meeting room of the Bitterroot Public Library. This month’s selection is “Siddhartha” by Hermann Hesse. Newcomers are welcome and this is free and open to the public.

 

Library film series

The first of the fall and winter Adult Foreign and Independent Film Series begins Thursday, November 17 at 7 p.m. in the West Meeting Room of the Bitterroot Public Library. The showing is a documentary about the bonds between humans and pets that have been separated by disaster. It chronicles the custody battles between the adoptive families and previous owners of the post Hurricane Katrina disaster. “Mine” is directed by Geralyn Pezanoski. The showing is free and intended for mature audiences due to adult themes, language and sexual content.

 

Back Country Horsemen

Bitterroot Back Country Horsemen host their monthly meeting on Thursday, November 17, at the Corvallis School Cafeteria on Eastside Highway in Corvallis. The annual delicious and bountiful Thanksgiving dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the general meeting starts at 7:00. Elections for 2012 officers and directors will take place at this meeting. NVL holiday book sale

It’s time for the big, huge, gigantic Holiday Book Sale at the Community Room of North Valley Public Library on Friday and Saturday, November 18 and 19, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. Come and find lots of good reading for yourself and even a Christmas gift or two. A large variety of fiction and non-fiction books will be offered, as well as books for children, tweens and teens. You’ll find books on history, politics, religion, self-help, hobbies, cooking, biographies, art, classics, large print and extra-large picture books. Harvard Classics, Childcraft and several kinds of encyclopedias will also be offered, as well as video movies for adults and children and some DVD’s and cassettes. As many as you can carry, just for the price of a donation. Supporting your library helps you, your family and the community. This Book Sale is dedicated to the memory of Rita Faulkner. Toddler play group

Music and Motion: Toddler Play Group meets at the North Valley Family Center on Friday, November 18 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. For children ages 2-5, Music and Motion is the perfect opportunity to introduce your child to structure and fun through the many wonders of music. There will be emphasis on different aspects of being a part of a group who enjoys music. Facilitated by Melissa Sparks and Traci Kutzleb. North Valley Pachyderm Club
The North Valley Pachyderm Club will meet Friday, November 18, at noon at The Frontier Café, Hwy 93 in Stevensville. There will be a Thanksgiving lunch with all the trimmings and a showing of a DVD by Kitty Werthman of South Dakota talking about what it was like living under Communism in the Hitler regime. The North Valley Pachyderm Club meets the first and third Friday of each month from noon to 1 p.m. at the Frontier Cafe. The North Valley Pachyderm Club is an educational arm of the Republican Party. Golden Age Thanksgiving dinner

The annual Thanksgiving dinner for the gold Age Club is scheduled for Friday, November 18 at 6 p.m. at the hall, 727 S. Fifth, Hamilton. The club will furnish turkey, dressing, potatoes and rolls; those attending should bring a salad, vegetable or dessert. Set up time for the dinner is Thursday, November 17 at 1 p.m. All help is appreciated. Bob Olson’s New Bitter Root Five band plays for the dance that night; Dick Reinbold on November 25 and the Valley Rhythm Boys Dec. 2. The cost for the dance following dinner is $3 for singles and $5 per couple. All band members and spouses are guests for the evening of the dinner. Exercise classes are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9 a.m. There will be no birthday parties n November and December because of the holidays.

 

Theater presentation
The Bitterroot Accidental Theatre Company proudly presents the Montana premiere of David Mamet’s brilliant farce “November” on November 18 and 19 at 7 p.m. at 515 Madison in Hamilton. An outrageous comedy about the potential and misuse of the highest office in the land, no rock is left unthrown or person unoffended. Called “maniacally funny” and “a raucous comedy” by top critics, it features Russ Lawrence, April Johnson, Molly Hill, Carrie Storrow and Terry Croghan. Tickets are $10 at the door. Holiday bazaar
Saint Francis Parish Holiday Bazaar will be held Saturday, November 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Saint Francis Pastoral Center, 411 S. 5th Street, Hamilton. Sponsoring groups are Share and Care, Saint Francis Ladies and Knights of Columbus. There will be coffee and doughnuts, luncheon, sale of baked goods, crafts, quilts, and new and gently used items, as well as two raffle baskets, each with over $150 in items from Hamilton Packing and Lifeline cheese plus 2 lbs. of honey. David Wilcox to perform in concert
Tickets are on sale now for an evening with one of the nation’s most celebrated singer-songwriter guitarists, David Wilcox, presented by the Bitterroot Performing Arts Council and appearing on the stage of the Hamilton PAC on Saturday, November 19 at 8 p.m. Wilcox is a true American treasure. His baritone voice is warm and engulfing; his music more lyric poetry than mere melody; and his unique guitar styling   speaks to genius, adaptability, and passion. Art City open house

Art City will celebrate its 32nd annual holiday open house on Sunday, November 20 from 2 to 8 p.m. There will be new work by all the ‘Art Citizens’ as well as many of their artist friends. An Art City tradition is the ‘tree’ of hand made ornaments. The party will also feature music by Peter Reynolds and Tom Schmeling. Art City is a co-operatively managed gallery featuring work by local artists. Habitat for Humanity benefit
The Ravalli County Habitat for Humanity Third Annual Pint Night will be held at Bitter Root Brewery, 101 Marcus Street, Hamilton, on Sunday, November 20, from 3 to 7 p.m. This event includes music by “Scatter the Mud.” There will be silent auction items from many businesses, a 50/50 raffle, and raffling off a beautiful quilt. Bitterroot Audubon
Bitterroot Audubon’s November program will feature a fascinating presentation about birds whose feathers developed with abnormal coloration. Judy Hoy, a wildlife rehabilitator for more than 45 years, will show photos of birds of a variety of species that grew white feathers where colored feathers usually occur, provided by photographers from around Montana. Judy will also bring a live adult Red-tailed Hawk that grew adult feathers as a pre-fledgling, possibly the first time such an unusual occurrence was ever documented with photographs. In addition, Judy will present a short program entitled “Incredible Crossbills” which will highlight how Crossbills get their bills to cross, what happens when they are unable to do so and other interesting facts about this species. Judy’s program is scheduled for Monday, November 21 at 7 p.m. at the Hamilton Public Library, 306 State, Hamilton, in the downstairs community room.
