The news from Stevensville this week is dire. When adults are unable to work together for the betterment of their community, it’s a sad day. Now the mayor and a council person have resigned, both citing the behavior of another council person as the problem.
We have to say that, in some ways, the town is getting what it deserves. First, a known troublemaker who previously had to resign as mayor in the face of a recall was once again elected to the council. Secondly, in spite of his many past questionable actions, he was then elected as council president.
We have now had three resignations, all attributable to the continued bullying, harassment and intimidation of one person on the council who will now step into the position of acting mayor.
It’s way past time for the town government, and the community, to wise up and do something about this awful situation. The current vacancies now present a unique opportunity. Who will step up?
