Swimming Pool Blues

June 15, 2011 by Editor

Dear Editor,
I have to really question if the Town of Stevensville truly wants to have a Community Pool? The Community Pool season has once again been delayed. It seems like just last year when the Town and the Stevensville Community Foundation couldn’t come to terms on getting the work done to open the pool on time.
This year, it seems the boiler and pump which broke last year… still have not been repaired. So, the pool opening is delayed once again this year. Is it me, or is summer the same time every year? I would think the Town might have wanted to plan to have the repairs completed before the scheduled pool opening?
The Town has also made sure by this lack of planning that the Lifeguards that where hired for this summer don’t earn a paycheck. That’s one way for the Town to save money.
Maybe the Mayor (…or whoever is responsible for repairing the pool) doesn’t remember what it’s like to be a young person trying to make a living during summer break? Another great experience for our youth growing up in Stevensville… The other possibility is Town Hall didn’t get the memo that the kids in Stevensville got out of school a month early? That again would require someone at Town Hall to be in touch with what’s really happening in town.
If this letter seems a bit strong, I apologize. Maybe we should have our kids go to our local skate park, movie theater or bowling alley.
That’s right, all we have is a Community Pool… which isn’t open.

I 100% agree with this article. What are our kids supposed to do? sit at home and watch TV,or play video games all day. WOW what fun! There needs to be some entertainment in this town for the youth to stay occupied or they will chose other means of entertainment.
